Marcus Mattei
Marcus Mattei was born in London in 1955. His parents, artists Eileen Taylor and Vincent Mattei, ran the Hampstead Gallery in the 1950's and 1960's and were founder members of Hampstead Artists Council which became famous under their guidance for its open air exhibitions. Marcus spent much of his childhood in Suffolk where visiting artists like Tom Keating were an early influence.
Marcus moved to North Cornwall in his late teens and has lived and worked there for 30 years. He is a keen waterman and the Atlantic coast of Cornwall plays a significant role in his life and work
Largely self taught , Marcus paints with an instinctive flair for colour, perhaps rooted in his mothers skills as a textile designer.
Marcus's work can be seen in galleries and exhibitions across Cornwall and throughout the country.
